22% out of 6.6 billion people in the world are online. that is a whopping 1.4 billion internet users on the globe (not counting alien residents). and most of them are concentrated in 2 and a half countries?! well 20 shown here but you know what i mean. it’s pretty amazing that indonesia (where i’ve stuck for the last God knows how long) is in that list. at least they’re ahead of australia. but look at china. their internet growth has been over 1000% in the raise since 2000, as opposed to america’s measly 130% growth over the same span of time. soon half the net will be in chinese. so moral of the chart is…
we fucking need to learn chinese, quick.

So China is responsible for slowing the Internet down. Go figure!
JErm, not sure if I’m the only one with this problem, but when I access your site using Internet Explorer, it crashes (page stops loading with a ‘operation aborted’ error). This happened even after rebuilding my laptop the other day as well, it seems to be the Twitter code!
Not only China may be the responsible for slowling internet. It sould be interesting to see another statistics. I´ve heard that, for example, Youtube, today has the same bandwidth consumption than the whole internet in 2000.
Other thing: If we are talking about languages, the ranking, i think is:
1 English ( USA, UK, half Canada)
2 Chinesse (Cantonesse? Mandarín?)
3 japanesse
4 Indi ( How many Indian contents are in english?)
5 german
6 Portuguesse
7 Spanish (SP, MX and we must ad all southamerica, so perhaps Spanish sould be over german)
hayward » either that or i planted a bug to crash your puter.. let me kill it now that we’re friends again!
pepote » the world has better overall internet infrastructure now. i don’t think china is slowing anything down, if at all i think they’re actually pacing things up. not sure if you read the ender saga or not but i think the world will need to speak common sooner or later, and if english doesn’t fight for its place then chinese might squeeze thru.
