RHL, Fedora Core, Gentoo… whatever!?

There’s been a nasty strand of flu wiping me off these past few days, it hit me worst on Wednesday, I could barely stand. I’m slowly recovering from this evil, and forcing myself back to working and blogging.

During my time off, I picked up on the Gentoo post and thought I’d amuse myself fooling with Linux a little. Since Gentoo was so huge to download and I didn’t have the bandwidth, I settled with my old RHL9 CDs. I tried out KDE this time instead of Gnome. RHL9 comes with KDE 3.1 out of the box, I’d prefer 3.2 but that would mean downloads (bandwidth?!). Worked out pretty good. I even got around to installing WineHQ (downloaded) that’s suppose to let you run Winfuck apps right inside Linux, no x86 emulator shit. I’m really getting into this stuff now, if I can figure out how to make PS CS and my limp softmodem to work I’ll definitely kiss Bill’s ass goodbye! I’m not too happy with RHL9′s performance, it’s a bit slow and it doesn’t detect my nVidia card quite right. I just noticed Fedora Core 1 is out, but Fedore Core 2 looks more tempting, so maybe I’ll wait. Or, I might do what Alyssa did and download Gentoo. Bandwidth is a big sucker tho! There are other alternatives, like SuSe, which has a nice green logo and nicely bundled package, or one of the million others out there.
