Winfuck Messenger — the one that comes with Winfuck XP — has been bugging me for years now. I tried to remove it from my system a number of different ways, only to fail. I killed the messenger process under the Services CP, and even uninstall Winfuck Messenger from Add/Remove Winfuck Components, and still it pops up everytime I start my dial-up. It’s about time Blastafuzix pointed me to Shoot the Messenger, which did a swell job in killing Winfuck Messenger for good. Now I can use my MSN Mesenger 6.1 without any interuptions, and only when I choose to.
Another thing I found useful was the DCOMbobulator.
Turned out RHL9 wasn’t good enough for me (outdated, incompatibilities, etc.) so on Sat I went to the software store downtown and grabbed SuSe 9.0. I’m likin this, it comes with KDE 3.14 (still could use 3.2) and it’s more beautiful than XP. Also PS7 works under Wine
. My modem still wouldn’t work tho, I might need to get an external hard modem. I wish PS CS would work, then I’d be completely converted. For the moment I still need to rely on XP some, for PS CS and playing games. I hope the days wouldn’t last long. Redmond (whatever) is going down!!
There’s been a nasty strand of flu wiping me off these past few days, it hit me worst on Wednesday, I could barely stand. I’m slowly recovering from this evil, and forcing myself back to working and blogging.
During my time off, I picked up on the Gentoo post and thought I’d amuse myself fooling with Linux a little. Since Gentoo was so huge to download and I didn’t have the bandwidth, I settled with my old RHL9 CDs. I tried out KDE this time instead of Gnome. RHL9 comes with KDE 3.1 out of the box, I’d prefer 3.2 but that would mean downloads (bandwidth?!). Worked out pretty good. I even got around to installing WineHQ (downloaded) that’s suppose to let you run Winfuck apps right inside Linux, no x86 emulator shit. I’m really getting into this stuff now, if I can figure out how to make PS CS and my limp softmodem to work I’ll definitely kiss Bill’s ass goodbye! I’m not too happy with RHL9′s performance, it’s a bit slow and it doesn’t detect my nVidia card quite right. I just noticed Fedora Core 1 is out, but Fedore Core 2 looks more tempting, so maybe I’ll wait. Or, I might do what Alyssa did and download Gentoo. Bandwidth is a big sucker tho! There are other alternatives, like SuSe, which has a nice green logo and nicely bundled package, or one of the million others out there.
Microsoft is now enforcing the use of genuine Microsoft products here. They’re sweeping computer stores, business offices, and even schools with help from local police. It’s one giant chaos here, and a huge pot of cash for the police [everyone is corrupt in this country]. As of now they’re not searching homes yet, but they might soon, so I’m forced to either stick with Linux or get my ass a licensed copy of WinXP, etc. This is hell broken lose, but I believe MicroHell is going down!
