Core77 is hosting the Timex 2154 International Design Competition with $20,000 worth of prize
. I’m tempted to register and try my luck, but I think I’d better step back and save myself from embarrassment. The competition falls under three categories, as follows:
Wrist-based
This category asks what on-wrist timekeeping devices will be like in 2154, and how they will relate to our perception and communication of time.Wearable
The wearable category moves off the wrist and imagines 2154 timekeeping somewhere else on the body.Conceptual
Entries in this category will embrace the most conceptual imaginings of timekeeping in the year 2154, redefining and recontextualizing the notion of time on a personal level.
I might do all right in the Conceptual category, but I need to grind on my 3D skills… not likely! Anyway it’ll be interesting to see what people come up with in June, that’s when the competition is over.
For security reasons I need to setup an anonymous email account, and it helps also to be able to browse the web anonymous. Does anyone have any good leads for this? I did a search on Google and everything I found either closed down or costs a zillion. I guess privacy comes at an expense, but I’d still like to think I can get it free!
I have this friend, let’s call him xXx for Google‘s search results’ sake — hey it’s always nice gettin some misdirected traffic. Anyway, this guy is turning 25 in a few months, but sometimes he acts more like a 15 year old. I don’t think he’s retarted or anything, I guess he’s just a bit lagged because he doesn’t really connect with people much. Dude’s a virgin and he never got drunk in his life. Well last night, in attempt to man him up a little, me and the guys got him drunk. Damn that was funny! He talks crap when he’s drunk and everything comes out — literally speaking too, cuz soon after he puked. We had a blast but I kinda feel sorry for xXx now. I imagine he’s probably having his hangover just about now and damn that’s a big sucker! Next up is to get him a girl!
I went to a friend’s kid’s 1st birthday party today — err.. yesterday, really — and learned an interesting fact from the Korean culture. Most Koreans celebrate the 1st and the 60th birthdays. They say before the 50′s, babies didn’t use to survive until they reach 1 year old, so any baby making it through his/her first year is a miracle, hence the celebration. Also not many elders lived past 60 years old, so they celebrate this second miracle as well. Funny when you think about it though, most friends I have never made it to 30. Maybe I should celebrate my 30th birthday — if I’m still alive by then — throwing a huge party or something.
