Pain and Pleasure

2005.09.01.08.32 · 12 comments

Day two of listening to Tony Robbin’s self improvement CDs.

Today he talked about pain and pleasure. Almost all our actions are controlled by these two factors. Psychologically every human will put effort into gaining pleasure and avoiding pain. So when we’re about to do something subconsciously we’ll weigh the pain and pleasure of doing that certain thing. If the outcome is pleasure then we’re more likely to do it, if it’s pain then we’re definitely to avoid it. But what most people forget is the process. If our subconscious tell us that the process of getting to the outcome (that pleasure I presume) is painful then often times we automatically drop that vision of pleasure in fear of facing the pain that you have to go through. Tony said to focus on what can happen if you don’t go through it. Imagine the pain that will arise from not doing it. If you can focus on that greater pain then your neurons will automatically readjust to let you go through the slight pain to achieve that pleasure.

Anyway, I have four things I have to do today, and I’ll do them as soon as JErmly possible :-P

  • Reply my emails done
  • Renew my motorbike registration papers
  • Stop exaggerating/improvising too much
  • Upgrade dS to WP 1.5.2 and think about its future

A little breakdown:

I have certain emails I always put off replying, cuz I thought I could do it later, it’s not very important, blah blah. In the end I usually lose contact with these persons and I end up thinking about why I haven’t heard from them in so long. So I’ll try to reply to every single unreplied email left in my inbox today.

My bike registration is expiring in 8 days. I’ve been meaning to renew it for weeks but haven’t had the cash to. Today is payday. I’ll do it as soon as I get off work.

I blow things out of proportions sometimes a lot of times to make a point. I realize I can often hurt others especially when I’m pointing out their bads. I should be more subtle in my approach. Also I tend to exaggerate too much when I tell stories. Sometimes I mix facts with my own imagination. It’s bad habit. I better stop before I deceive any more souls.

There’s a security issue with WP 1.5.1.3 so I better upgrade dS rightaway. I also need to think about where dS is heading. It’s virtually dead right now with the main editors (me and Lee) being too miserable with our own lives.

Ok so that’s that. As for yesterday’s things to do, I didn’t fail. Well maybe a little. I did wake up at six this morning but I cuddled in bed for an extra 5-10 minutes, then I checked my email first before doing the exercise. Tomorrow the exercise will come first. I just learned a disturbing fact about static biking though, that it can cause erectile disfunction. Anybody know about that? I wish I could afford going to the gym and get a little variety in my exercise.

I did tell Lee and Craig about Mr. Robbins. I hope they’ll listen to me and consider getting the tapes/CDs too.

Just like muscle exercise, the art of taking action has to be applied regularly. The more you do it the easier it will get over time. Blogging like this is embarrassing but if it’ll help me and I can help others doing it why the hell not.

Repetition is the mother of all skills. Have a good day everyone! :D

I had the same excuse, until busy didn’t cut it anymore. I started to lose friends.

By being busy, do you mean not replying for a day or two or for months…?

As far as deceiving folks, I used to pretend I was somebody else and go off on rants about how heavy metal was “devil music” and how my friends were all messed-up for liking it…but then I would forget to tell them that I was just kidding. I would do stuff like that all the time and leave my friends very confused.

I don’t know what static bicycling is, but there are bicycle seats that have a hole cut in the middle so you won’t get E.D. I plan on cycling again next year when I can afford a nice bike.

Caiaphas » Static bikes are those bikes you find at the gym that don’t move. You just sit there cycling while staring at yourself in the mirror. I have one at home for my parents, but I use it too from time to time.

As for deceiving people, I think Kevin Mitnick has got to me deep man!! :!:
