Leverage, Interruption, Redefinition and Goals

Tony Robbins - Days 4 and 5 combined.

I’m supposed to be on day 7 (last day) today but since I slacked on Sunday and I skipped Monday I’m only finishing day 5 now.

So…

We need to find leverage in order to motivate us to take action. For example I am in bad need of fixing my sleeping pattern. I want to crash at exactly 11pm and fall asleep rightaway and wake up at 6am. I’ve wanted to do this for ages only to fail over and over again. What I was lacking was a leverage. What would I achieve in doing this? How can I treat myself if I succeed? Well for starters I can freak myself out with the pain of not doing this, that my body will deteriorate over time and my occasional state of depression would become permanent hence damaging my overall health and sanity. Then I can offer myself the thought of having a relaxing morning, without hurrying to get to work as soon as I jump out of bed. I can have a nice cold shower to refresh myself. I can make and have a decent breakfast before work. I can keep up with my emails (at last) before I go to work, rewarding me with fresh new replies when I come home from work.

So that’s leverage. The next thing is interruptions. We need to interrupt our limiting factors. There are tons of ways of doing this but one good and effective way is to sit back and think about the things you need to change and suddenly interrupting yourself with a silly action or thought. For example if I were to fear heights I can sit back thinking about how scary it is to stand on the edge of a tall building staring down. Then suddenly I stand up out of my relaxation to do an Indian rain dance. Repeat 10x or so. The process will help you break free from your limiting patterns, liberating your mind for a new definition.

Thirdly you need to redefine these limiting associations with new empowering associations. For example if I used to associate drinking a lot of water to pissing every 5 minutes to what a fucking hassle then after interrupting that pattern with the method above I need to redefine drinking water and associate it with for example healthier skin which means I’ll look more vibrant which means the girls in the office will notice me more which means I’ll get laid this weekend.

Ok that’s that and please excuse my extreme examples.

On to day 5…

Goal settings.

In order to succeed one must have goals in mind. If you ask a little kid what he/she wants for Christmas you’ll instantly get a long list effortlessly. But if you ask an adult what he wants in 5 years, ten years then you’ll face a confused motherfucker staring blank at you.

We need to set our goals straight.

These goals can be categorized into three main categories:

  • Personal development goals
  • Things Goals
  • Financial Goals

Here are my top three goals in each category:

Personal Development Goals

  • Get to know God and His will in my life
  • Get buff, with a six pack and stronger legs, arms and finger muscles
  • Sleep 6-7 hours a day between 11pm and 6am

Things Goals

  • 24/7 fast internet connection
  • Laptop
  • High story apartment in a busy metropolitan area (KL, Singapore, LA, etc)

Financial Goals

  • Earn $5000 per month from the internet
  • Give $1000 per month to parents, friends, family and needful others
  • Save $1000 per month for future investment and capital

Those are simple goals that I need to achieve within the next year. While they may seem very simplistic I believe they are the fundamentals of a better future for me. With a decent laptop and a high speed internet connection I can finally work on my overdue internet ideas (companies) and I can carve my own path of success. It would all be nicer if I can do it in a nice apartment living a good life with good health and a gorgeous body to attract the females. The financial goals will be the result of the previous goals. I believe in God and I don’t think I can do any of the above without His blessing and help in every corner, so to me maintaining a healthy relationship with Him might be a good idea to help start me off.

Enough shame for one day (maybe that’s why I skipped yesterday) so get those neurons rearranged and set your future goals TODAY. Happy blogging and have fun living your life! :D

Good luck with the goals; it should be a bit easier compared to many other people since you’ve already written down some things you consider to be important [many people don’t even write these down, including you-know-who..].

Nice categories. Hope your $$ goals come true soon; might be easier with this website. :)

Unless you have made $5,000 in a month before how do you know how it feels? Better to start small with an amount you made and make the goal a % increase, You will burn out less. RUN you Inc. like a company. You will be amazed at the results

Wow! Five grand a month? Good luck with that.
