Emerge Beta

I like the beginning of a new month. Many good things happen, like money in the bank, less work to deal with and a chance to start over. It’s a good time to try something new, since it’s been a little over a year since I made any major updates around here. So I present you Emerge Beta - my secret project for the last six months (on and off), home designed and hand coded* in much toil surviving both depression and dementia. Ok enough crap. Here it is folks. I chose the name Emerge because this end of the year marks a giant leap in life for me. I’m quitting my job in three weeks and moving on to full blogging and webdesign starting January 2006. It’s time I emerge from my dark past and step into my new future.

The design is tested in Firefox, Safari and IE. It’s in beta because I’m not quite done yet. It’ll probably be in beta for good since I plan to keep working on it until it’s time for a new design. If you catch any bugs please drop me a note.

So, what do you guys think?

I love it! I was expecting to see the old design when I cam here and I literally jumped in my seat whenever I saw this one. Really amazing.

  10. nat says:

very slick! was a bit of a shock at first sight. but it’s rich :-)

a few points; in safari (at least for me) the search bar doesn’t quite fit in the space given by the background bit…
also the google ads in there with the navigation is a little confusing at first glance.
and it maybe a little clearer at a glance if the headers to the side boxes were a lighter shade of green, seems logical that they should stand out slightly more than the content of the boxes.

  11. jmweirick says:

I gotta agree with nat, the ads in the navigation section are just a tad confusing, especially with it saying things like “Blog Archives.”

Very nice, my good man. Here’s my first impression (10 being highest).

    Colors: 9
    Content: 9
    Green-ness: 10
    Contrast: 8
    Ease of use: 8
    Uniqueness: 9
    Graphics: 8

    Overall: 9

I’m a pretty picky web browser, so I’m really impressed with the work you’ve done. I can’t wait to see this thing evolve as you emerge.

Nat and James, thanks for the adlinks critique, it’s been noted and I’ll think of a better solution. The sidebar however is going to be redesigned so I’ll fix the dim label problem along with my next update.

Prem, that’s very generous man, thanks a bunch!! :)

Lee, Peter, Dee, Crystal, Mandy, Jess, Alex, Felicia, and Bes, thank you!! Your kind words and support mean the world to me. I’ll keep working on making this a better place for all of us. :)

  16. craig says:

The header is sweet but I’d ditch the adlinks there and fix the menu positioning in FF1.0.7 XP.

Has a nice jungle feel to the theme, I’m expecting vines to entangle me any minute. :)

  17. JErm says:

Hey Craig. Yeah the vote is high on removing the adlinks. What’s up with the FF 1.0.7 menu positioning? I tried it on FF 1.0.6 and FF 1.5 and it looks fine. Am I missing something? Could you send me a screenshot?

I made a vines tutorial for PS a few years ago. I’ll think about growing them around here.

  18. twice translated says:

i actually have the same search bar problem that Nat pointed out. i agree with the ads bit, as well. atleast move them, so they don’t mix with the posts. and one more thing…

    click. refresh.

    *sighs* ;)

  19. jmweirick says:

    I’m gettin’ 41 bats consistently.

I really love the quote by the way ;)

  20. JErm says:

Nat and Mandy, I overlooked that search bar glitch. I just tested it on Safari again and you’re right, looks damn ugly. It’s just been added to my list of fixes.

James, thanks man, the quote popped out of my head during one of my states of dementia. You know, between sleeping and wakefulness?!

So Mandy, since when did you use Macs? ;)

  21. twice translated says:

i don’t, actually. i use opera :D [for those not well versed–opera is the most awesomest web browser ever. entirely customisable..firefox times ten and a half.]

  22. JErm says:

Opera is awesome but it ain’t light like Firefox is! :-P

say something...
