Attack in London

2005.07.07.18.31 · 8 comments

I just got a text from Lee right out of the shower telling me about the terrorist attack in London. So far they’ve confirmed two deaths at Aldgate. There were a few other explosions, seven to be exact, I think. I’m chatting with Lee now to find out more. He’s safe, so is Rupert his son and his girlfriend is stuck at the office. She was in the tube when one of the explosions stopped it. I just emailed my ex-boss but haven’t heard back from him. He moved to London three months ago. All the underground systems are blacked out. Tony Blair has officially declared this a terroris attack. I can’t seem to load any of the news channels right now, they’re probably overloaded. I’ll post more later.

Update: Here’s Lee’s post on the incident and here’s some official news from CNN and Hindu News.

More Updates: US sources confirmed 40 dead and a hint of Al-Qaeda involvement in the attack. And my ex-boss is safe and sound back home in the States. Apparently he was forced to leave because of visa problems.

a ‘hint’ of al-qaeda involvement. the americans would, wouldn’t they? they could find a ‘hint’ of al-qaeda in anything, if doing so would benefit them :P

[oh, and to be clear...] i’m not discounting the fact that al-qaeda could very well be involved. only that america is quick to point the finger. on the other hand, al qaeda usually claims its attacks to make a point, however misguided and twisted it may be. they’re not so bold this time–a bit out of character, yea?

nina » Just sharing my worry with the world, that’s all.

twice translated » al-Qaeda did claim responsibility on a website, but it’s not confirmed (I couldn’t find the website, damn). Anyway I don’t really give a shit who did it or why, it only matters what the govs will do (can do) to protect their people from such lunas.

jeZz » I think it’s weak to attack a country just because it’s been awarded the 2012 Olympics, what kind of pathetic envy is that? I think they’re just trying to get back at Britain for helpin the US wipe out Iraq and Afghanistan. Beats me but I’m just glad none of my friends are hurt.

i read it here first also :-P
“it only matters what the govs will do (can do) to protect their people from such lunas” a scary concept in itself, governments of scared people are arguably as dangerous as the terrorists.

“I think it’s weak to attack a country just because it’s been awarded the 2012 Olympics
“I hope there isn’t a link between the olympics and the attack although that would seem to be the strongest single political implication. For one, it would mean that they were prepared to do this for a while and we able to do so on short notice.

We mustn’t rule out the possibility that this is linked to the G8 conference!

Thank you all for your kind words and showing your support at this terrible time.
