ArtFaceOff – As If Artists Need Competition

From Techcrunch

ArtFaceOff is a new site that lets artists upload pictures of their art along with descriptive tags, and compete in a face-off with other artists. Winners move on to the next level of competition, and the eventual winner receives a $1,000 prize.

The money is never a bad idea but I wonder why artists would feel the need for competition? Art is art and every piece of art is beautiful and/or fugly in its own way. People who know about art always say art is about how it makes you feel, so there isn’t really good or bad art, it all depends on who looks at it and when. The site does give new artists a place to showcase their work and interact with other artists though, so it can’t be all that bad.

Go back to school and focus on reading “comprehension” because you obviously missed the point of ART FACE OFF.

As an artist (photography) it is all about exposure. I could care less about the prize money or the competition itself. No matter what, I will still get exposure.

When you step up and decide to create art and try to sell it, you might better appreciate the concept of “exposure”.

Until then, shut and and stop critizing web sites you are don’t understand.

I hope you weren’t the product of post Reagan public shools. Ouch.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks scott,

I agree that artists need exposure but I don’t agree that artists need to go head-to-head with one another just to prove who’s better than who. And speaking of exposure there are tons of sites like deviantart.com or digitalart.org where you can showcase your art and get good exposure.

Thanks for your kind opinion though, and good luck with your photography.
