Windows Vista 2006

Windows Vista

Longhorn is now Vista, available for IT professionals and developers in the first beta starting August 3rd. This next-generation Windows operating system sounds like a mountain spa resort, and they claim that it enables a new level of confidence in your PC and gives focus to what’s important to you. Microsoft expects to release a commercial version next year. I’m not so much enthused but what the hell, we’ll see how good it is when it comes out.

Update (August 1, 2005): I posted some screenshots here.

XP was indeed faster and had more features such as fast connectivity to the ‘net and better hardware support. I hope Vista is the next leap, such as the leap that was taken from 3.1 to 95, or [imagine] 95 to XP directly. Otherwise, it seems more like a focus on security and media [view pictures, watch videos and listen to music] for the normal consumer. Viewing media alone on the computer is not why I have a computer, so I hope there are other things in it that make it different and the next step from XP, not just “enormous” enhancements to things that XP already has. Even right now majority of the people do not have XP but other Windows versions. XP still has issues and never achieved the level that was hyped up by Microsoft. “Vista” would be a hard product to sell.

I’m not really concerned. I posted the news cuz I thought it was about time they do this. Nothing more to it. I’m already anticipating Mac OS’s switch to x86 platform. When it happens I’m definitely switching. But yeah, it’ll be good to see it on my screen, just for the heck of it. I like new OSes! ;)

I wasn’t overly impressed with XP and i’m sure as hell not going to be impressed with a suped-up media centre alternative to XP Pro! It had better fly like Linux and have the desktop graphic and publishing style of the Mac or i’m not even going to steal a copy, let alone buy it.

say something...
